Paced Reflection Prompting is the AI practice developed by Jules (Saint Null) to better form new ideas and beliefs, develop them, and refine them, without the issues inherent with AI sycophancy.
It utilizes AI to draw original thoughts from within the user’s mind, while keeping them raw and untempered by AI’s default settings.
The way that it does so is by paraphrasing the user’s ideas and simplifying them without (and this is crucial) offering opinions or advice of its own.
This technique is based on the author’s training in Rogerian therapy modalities - however, it is not a therapeutic method.
It consists of four stages.
Stage One: Stream-Of-Consciousness Prompting
Stream-of-Consciousness Prompting, whereby the user presses “record” on their device and allows their raw, unfiltered thoughts to spill out, doing their utmost to avoid internal editing. Can be done by typing, but works best as a voice recording.
Stage Two: Paced Reflection
Paced Reflection, whereby the AI offers a simplified paraphrase of what has been said.
Stage Three: Reverse Prompting
Reverse Prompting, where the AI asks the user a guiding question to enable further elaboration of their thoughts.
Stage Four: Human Witnessing
Human witnessing, where the idea, realization or breakthrough, is shared with another human being for either passive reception or active feedback.
Application
The Paced Reflection Prompting process is universal and can be applied to any single topic of discussion, ranging from business, to personal relationships, to life purpose examination - or to any creative endeavor.
